Essex public sector organisations support NHS through pandemic

Staff from Essex's public sector organisations have united to support their colleagues in the NHS to ensure community care provision continues during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last weekend, volunteers from a number of public sector organisations worked alongside staff at Braintree and Brentwood community hospitals to prepare the areas for the creation of new wards.

Coordinated through the Essex Resilience Forum (ERF), volunteers from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the local military, Witham-based logistics company SIMARCO and NHS employees, spent the weekend clearing furniture and moving hospital beds.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Rick Hylton, one of the co-chairs of the ERF, said:
"The weekend's efforts are a clear demonstration of how public services and local business can pull together in times of crisis for the greater good, and of course this was another way we could help our NHS colleagues in unprecedented times.

"I am truly grateful to everyone who volunteered their time to help and make a difference to our communities."

The ERF brings together public sector organisations in Essex including blue light responders, county and unitary authorities, district councils, the voluntary sector, health, highways, to form a coordinated countywide response in times of crisis.

The group is co-chaired by Deputy Chief Fire Officer Rick Hylton and Chief Constable BJ Harrington from Essex Police.
