Developing Community Resilience

 

How can I get involved?

As part of the community, we all play an important role in making sure our communities remain safe and resilient, there are numerous ways in which we can do this. After having a look around these pages, you may already be thinking about what you could do either yourself, or with others, to help your local community be better prepared for risks such as flooding and severe weather.

There are lots of easy ways you can do this, some simple ways are to:

  • Check on neighbours especially those who may have difficulty getting out/supplies in bad weather or in the event of an emergency.
  • Develop your household emergency plan
  • Know where your local AED is (not all AED’s are listed here but a good resource): Defib finder – find the defibrillators nearest you.
  • Know local places you could go for help (pubs, village halls etc)
  • Become familiar with your local community emergency plan, If your community doesn’t have a community emergency plan you can encourage your local representatives (eg parish council). to create one.
  • by supporting some of the work happening in your area (speak too your local council),
  • by establishing something new - such as a: -
  • Develop a Community Emergency Plan - this can be for your street,neighbourhood, village or town.
  • Form a Community Resilince Response Group trained to support your local community during an incident.
  • Join local voluntary sector organisations working in your community
